Poem: I am from the nation whose children frighten him!

Who does such a thing? I do not have words to describe my emotions.

Below are the lyrics of a tribute that ISPR Pakistan released in the days following the catastrophe. The translation of the verses you hear in the audio version follows the (Roman) Urdu text. The chorus translates to I am from the nation whose children frighten him; some enemy he is, he who targets children!

Bata kia puchta hai wo, kitaboon mein miloon ga mein,
Kiye maa se hain jo maine ke waadon mein miloon ga mein

What is he searching for, I live on in books
I will be found in the promises I made to my mother

Main aaney wala kal hoon wo mujhe kyun aaj marey ga,
Ye uska vehem hoga kay wo aisey khwaab marey ga

I am the future, how can he slay me today?
He has to be delusional if he believes he can kill such dreams

Tumhara khoon hoon na isliye acha lara hoon mein,
Bata aya hoon dushman ko kay us se to bara hoon mein

I am your blood, hence I’ve fought valiantly
I have proven to the enemy that I am better than him

Main aisi qoum se hoon jiske wo bachon se darta hai,
Bara dushman bana phirta hai jo bachon se larta hai

I am from the nation whose children frighten him
Some enemy he is, he who targets children

To jab atey hue mujhko galey tumne lagaya tha,
Aman’Allah kahan mujhko mera beta bulaya tha

So when you hugged me as I departed
You did not wish me Aman’Allah

Khuda kay amn ki raah mein kahan se agaya tha wo,
Jahan tum choomti theen maa wahan tak agaya tha wo

How did he cross into God’s path of peace?
He desecrated my forehead where you used to kiss me, mother

Main aisi qoum se hoon jiske wo bachon se darta hai,
Bara dushman bana phirta hai jo bachon se larta hai

I am from the nation whose children frighten him
Some enemy he is, he who targets children

Mujhe jana para hae per mera bhai kare ga aab,
Mein jitna na parha wo tab mera bhai parhe ga aab

Although I have been forced to leave, my brother will take my place
He will continue the education that I have been deprived of

Abhi baba bhi baki hein kahan tak ja sako ge tum,
Abhi wada raha tum se yahan na aa sako ge tum

My father is alive, you won’t find refuge anywhere
Be rest assured, you won’t come here, ever again

Main aisi qoum se hoon jiske wo bachon se darta hai,
Bara dushman bana phirta hai jo bachon se larta hai

I am from the nation whose children frighten him
Some enemy he is, he who targets children!
